Hosted by JAMIE MCKEW, Founding Director, Port Fairy Folk Festival
& featuring MICK THOMAS (2008 Port Fairy Artist Of the Year), DECLAN O’ROURKE (IRE) (performing solo and as a feature guest in Exile – Songs & Tales of Irish Australia PFFF 2018), BARB WATERS and KERRI SIMPSON.
In the true spirit of one of Australia’s most iconic and long standing music festivals the PORT FAIRY SPOTLIGHT SESSIONS will bring a taste of the Port Fairy Folk Festival to the big smoke in celebration of the artists and the philosophy that make this Festival so special.
The inaugural gig will kick off with Meet the Guests – an artist Q&A – hosted by JAMIE MCKEW. MICK THOMAS and DECLAN O’ROURKE, plus Festival favourites from over the years, KERRI SIMPSON and BARB WATERS will come together for a chat with the audience and a few songs together. These collaborations are an integral and much loved part of the Festival and this combination of talent should produce some fine music and craic. If that isn’t enough, the audience will then be treated to an intimate set from each of the artists – over three hours – making it a bonafide Festival gig, smack bang in the middle of St Kilda.
“The coming series of Port Fairy Spotlight Sessions will be hosting a great line-up of firm favourites and new artists selected for the 2018 festival next March. The idea has been knocking around for a while and we’re delighted to have found the right home at MEMO Music Hall. We love the idea of presenting a very mini Port Fairy in the premier city for live music. We see it as a special treat just down the street for about half our festival fans – who are metros! There will be surprises galore, great music and fun to be had.”– Jamie McKew
