A celebration of the inaugural Memo Music Hall Poetry Massacre held on June the 12th, 2022 which featured the cream of Melbourne’s independent musicians including HI ACE (Jeff Lang and Alison Ferrier) Charles Jenkins, Shane O’Mara (both playing at the Bob Dylan Tribute at the Pallais Theatre in May 2024, and Monique Brumby twice Aria Award winner.

Each act sang a well known song of their own or a cover and also recited a favourite poem or song lyric. We believe our great Melbourne songwriters are poets too and are extremely well read.

Returning to the MEMO stage from the first Poetry Massacre are Rebecca Barnard (from popular band, Rebeccas Empire. She has sung with Paul Kelly. Stephen Cummings Renee Geyer and many others.) RRR Legend Dan Warner who featured for 25 glorious years on the JVG Radio Show and his latest album; Night Parrots (including Marcel Borrack and other RRR Luminaries) has been well received with glowing reviews.

Joining them will be Greg Arnold, lead singer from chart topping band, Things of Stone & Wood, who have been gracing National and International stages to large audiences for more than 30 years and who had the distinction of their most beloved songs released by Sony (from the Essential Music Brand). Sarah Carroll who has released five solo albums as well as joining in three-part harmony bands with the honey tones of Suzannah Espie and other great musicians in acclaimed bands such as GIT, The Cartridge Family and The Junes.

The Opelousas featuring Soul & Blues Queen Kerri Simpson, Alison Ferrier (herself a great singer, guitarist and fiddle player) Shorti (Anthony from Aria winners, Collards Green and Gravy). This band are a multi award blues powerhouse who are fast building a loyal following and recently had the distinction of RRR album of the week.

Now added to the bill: Blues legend Jeff Lang who has released 30 album and toured with International acts such as Bob Brozman and American blues-rocker Chris Whitley. Jeff received an ARIA award in 2012. Shannon Bourne who has played with Chris Wilson. Jo Cameleri, Tex Perkins and Don Walker from Cold Chisel and a regular in the popular band. The Checker Board Lounge.

This event will feature the launch of well published writer Michael Crane’s latest collection of Poems from independent Boutique Poetry Publisher Flying Islands Press: URBAN & LANDSCAPE/ORDINARY LIVES. This will also be a fundraiser for Park Tower’s Housing Estate where Michael lives and supporting the Food Pantry which has been providing groceries for the needy and urgently needs financial support.
