MEMO’s ‘Q & A 3’ featuring VINCE JONES…
1. You have worked with a number of musicians over the years and with your upcoming show, you will be performing with some of the best jazz musicians the country has to offer, what do you look for in a good jazz band?
I like to play with players that love jazz music. The players must be sensitive to the music and the other players in the ensemble.
It’s also important to know a fellow player well enough so that they can understand how you think musically.
2. Is there a particular song that you love to sing live from your extensive collection of songs? and why?
I wrote a song called Jettison or “Don’t Jettison everything” It combines my love of folk, Soul and Jazz music. The lyrics are obtusely about Planet Earth and how she is actually a spaceship and we are all captains of the ship. In the song I urge people to consider how important spaceship Earth is to us and to put it to the forefront of their decisions.
3. What has been your ultimate career highlight?
I recorded in the U.S with some great players and the record was quite popular,it was an enjoyable and learning experience..
I enjoy playing with great musicians and my present ensemble with Matt Mc Mahon, Danny Fischer and Ben Robertson is such fun for me to play with. Playing with a great band is always a career highlight.
